We created and designed a simple and clear website that directed people right to the information they needed. An interactive map, a tool that didn’t exist elsewhere, allowed voters to find their nearest satellite vote center and/or secure dropbox. This tool was made available for partners to embed on their website as well.
By Election Day, the DV2022 website had 77,710 views from 48,064 unique users, meaning just under 8% of Detroit residents visited the site.
Design
Mail and literature design were a large component of this program, although messaging before October 19th also included the option to register online rather than in-person or via mail. The mail included voter registration forms and return envelopes. In total, 53,130 mail pieces went out.

Digital
Digital used a target list of unregistered voters on Facebook and Instagram. Messaging centered on “Get it done, Detroit” and “Your Voice Matters,” directing viewers to the voter registration page of the website to learn more about voter registration requirements.
Digital allowed the campaign to target Detroit voters with satellite vote center addresses and days/hours of operation. By using multiple versions of creative, we were able to repeatedly reach voters with the key campaign message and link to the satellite vote center map. The campaign also ran paid search ads in Detroit to capture voters as they were researching and making their plans to vote.
Impact
In 2022, 171,635 Detroit voters turned out for the November general election out of 508,535 registered voters. This means that Detroit had a turnout of 33.75% of registered voters.
508,535 citizens in Detroit were registered to vote for the 2022 elections representing an increase of 34,185 registered voters in the city between 2018 and 2022.
